YAM CHAAT

I usually serve this for breakfast when I haven't had time to prepare for anything else. Its healthy, easy and quick. What's more, I marinate these into our Pyrex glass bowls, that we can carry to work. Then we just microwave them at our offices, just before we are about to have lunch and squeeze in the lime and devour it hot!

To make it spicier add a dash of green coriander mint chutney. I have used White Yam in this recipe but use whatever is available. You can replace the Yams with potatoes too. This is a great Lunch idea for those cold winter afternoons when you want to bite into something hot and spicy without spending hours in the kitchen. And why restrict it to Lunch alone, you can have it for breakfast, appetizer or as a snack too.

Ingredients:

Yam - 1 large, Any kind, I used White Yam
Onion - 1 medium cubed
Green Bell Pepper - 1 cubed
Green Chilies - 1 sliced
Ginger - Julienned 1/2 inch
Fresh Coriander Leaves - 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Rock Salt - 1/4 tsp
Roasted Cumin Powder - 1 tsp
Black Pepper - 1/4 tsp
Wedge of Lemon

Procedure:

1. Take a bowl

2. Add in the cubed Yam

3. Next the cubed onions, separating each cube individually

4. Some Ginger Juliennes for flavor

5. Green Chilies to spice the Chaat

6. Some Green Peppers, also cubed

7. Now some dry spices, the salt, rock salt, roasted cumin powder and some black pepper powder.

8. Everything tastes better with fresh coriander leaves.

9. Toss them well and pop into the microwave for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes remove and mix and microwave again for 3 more minutes.

10. After 6 minutes, pierce a knife into a yam and if it comes out clean our Yams are done.

11. Serve hot with a wedge of lemon!
