SEV PURI

Sev Puri is a popular street snack in India. If you ever happen to visit Ahmedabad you have to try the hawker who sits outside Municial Market on C.G. Road. Spicy, tandy, crunchy and delicious. We usually end up in tears by the time we finish our plate of sev puri here, but we still keep going back for more of this spicy heaven.

This is a quick recipe and you can easily adjust the chutneys to suit your taste buds. I hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients:

Puri for Sevpuri, 12 or as needed
Boiled Potato, 1 small peeled and mashed
Onions, 1 small finely chopped
Lemon Juice, 1/4 tsp
Chat Masala, 1/4 tsp
Red Chili Powder, 1/4 tsp
Date & Tamarind Chutney, 1 tbsp
Coriander Mint Chutney, 1 tbsp
Nylon Sev, 1/4 cup
Fresh Coriander Leaves, handful finely chopped

Note: I used these puris as they were readily available at my local Indian store but you are welcome to use what is available near you.

Procedure:

1. Place the puris on a plate. Mash the potatoes with your hands and mix in the onions. Spread the onion potato mixture on the puris.

2. Sprinkle chat masala, red chili powder & lemon juice on the puris.

3. Add some date and tamarind chutneys to the puris. If you like your sev puri sweet, be generous with this tandy chutney.

4. And now some coriander mint chutney. Again, adjust the quantity to suit your palate.

5. Top with lots of nylon sev and fresh coriander leaves. Devour immediately before the puris get soggy.
