BREAD ROLLS

This used to be a popular breakfast when we were growing up. Sunday mornings we would wake up late and laze around the house. Muma would make us hot bread rolls for breakfast. We would dip these in ketchup and have them along with milk for our breakfast, watching Mahabharat or Chandrakanta. Good old days!

This is the simplest and quickest breakfast or snack possible. You can use whatever stuffing you have on hand and make it at short notice too. Jashan (my dear husband) likes his bread rolls drowned in tangy yogurt topped with chutneys but I like mine hot and crispy. Preferably with green chutney on the side.

Do try my recipe for simple bread rolls and leave your feedback below.

Ingredients:

Potatoes, 2 boiled and peeled
Cheese, 1 cube (optional)
Green Chilies, 2 finely chopped
Ginger, 1 tsp crushed
Fresh Coriander, 2 tbsp finely chopped
Salt to taste
Red Chili Powder, 1 tsp
Roasted Cumin Powder, 1 tsp
Bread Slices, 6 (I have used white, but you can use any kind)

Procedure:

1. Grate the boiled potatoes in a bowl.

2. If you want, you can also grate in some cheese.

3. Spice it with some ginger, green chilies and fresh coriander leaves.

4. Add in the dry spices, salt, roasted cumin and red chili powder.

5. Mix everything to combine well. Divide into 6 balls.

6. Take the bread slices and some water in a separate bowl.

7. Take one slice of bread and moisten it by a quick dip in some water. Remove and squeeze out the water by pressing the slice between the palms of your hands.

8. Place a potato ball in the center of the bread slice and form into a big ball bringing together all the edges in the center.

9. Repeat step 7 & 8 for the remainder of the bread slices.

10. Heat oil on medium high heat and fry the bread rolls till brown and crisp on both sides.

11. Bread Rolls are best had hot and crispy. You can have them as is or dunk them in tangy yogurt topped with chutneys!
